[...] The next day Blair and I set out with several of her friends to the actual Street Festival but after an hour or two I decided to split off from the group to venture out and explore London. I figured I would take the time to get to know Gowalla‘s newly revised iPhone app and it’s Gowalla Guides feature. For those unfamiliar with Gowalla, it’s a location based social networking service that previously was built around “checking-in” to a venue similar to Foursquare, which I wrote about when it debuted at SXSW ’09.
hey hey - thanks for the feedback on foursquare... I'm def with you that the website is a little wonky (me + Naveen are having lunch in, er, 30 minutes to hash through all the major website changes we need to bust thru). A few things tho...

+ Re: more visibility on history. Totally agree. It's a website thing. For now, hit this (kind of secret page) and you'll see kind-of where we're going: http://playfoursquare.com/history

+ Re: walls between cities. Separating the world into different locales makes it easy to say "do X things while you're in Y" rather than use the fuzzy barriers of nationwide LBS (e.g. where does Boston end and the suburbs begin.. and if I'm in Boston proper do I really care about what's going on in the 'burbs). Agreed thatbBoth iPhone and website need make it easier to keep tabs on what's going on in other cities tho

+ Re: badges. Also with you here... we made some pretty generic badges just to get things kicked off. The "users create their own badges for other users" tools are almost done (testing now) and I really think this is going to open things up a lot. Really psyched to see where things go from here.

Anyway, thanks again for the feedback! Please feel free to hit us up w/ any other thoughts.
