About John

John Morrison is the founder and owner of Subism Studios LLC. A graduate of the Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, NY John holds a degree in visual communications and specializes in photography, production and design.

A self taught web-programmer John’s projects utilize open web standards methods such as HTML & CSS that will work on any browser or platform. Over the years he has used these skills to create and manage several community based websites in a variety of roles ranging from editor, to columnist and designer.

As a designer John’s clients have included working as art director/graphic designer for ska group Spider Nick & The Maddogs for the release of their third studio album: Bone Dog. Since moving to Chicago in 2007 John has focused on his photography working with a variety of events and musical acts including: Apple Inc, Ben Folds, The Foals, The Kills, Chairlift, An Event Apart and Gals’ Guide.

In 2008 John helped revise the brand identity for the SiNNERMAN Ensemble, a theater company out of Chicago including a website and typographical treatment. Later that year he began partnering with sketch comedy group Long Pork as their photographer and technical consultant. In 2009 he stepped up his involvement joining Long Pork as their designer and marketing lead for their 8 week run of “Soda” the Apollo Theater Studio and has continued working with the group since as well as others.

He is currently working on a book of his photography and hoping to start participating in group gallery showings of his work. And writes a photo blog for Tribune Company’s ChicagoNow site entitled Focal Points.

John currently resides in Chicago, Illinois although he was born and raised in New York.
